Volunteer at The Kind Farm Inc.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering. To help the horses, suit our set up and keep you safe. Please consider carefully if you are willing to commit as it takes our resources away from the horses to invest time in you learning.

 

This is the way volunteering works.

You need to committ to a 2 hour session weekly - 1 hour of paddock maintenance and manure collection (or other horse related tasks as requested) + 1 hour of "horse time". Horse time may be grooming, connecting as agreed between us.

 

Each volunteer is assigned one field. When we speak and have our first session, we can decide if volunteering is going to be a match for the horses, you and our charity.  Some of the more robust herds are only suited to very experienced people.

All volunteers need to:

• come weekly (at least 40 weeks of the year)

• be safe and competent working autonomously

• be safe collecting manure and navigating heavy wheelbarrows 

• be willing to come even when hot or raining - hours are flexible.

• Be experieneced* and confident around horses. Catching,  leading, staying safe in a herd.

• Be willing to handle and approach horses OUR GENTLE WAY 

• Be good at taking instructions

• Come in rainy and or hot conditions (you will need a raincoat and gum boots)

This is not suited if you:

• Wanting to meet people, as most often you will be working alone.

• Are very busy and can not volunteer regularly (most weeks)

• Are visiting the area.

• People expecting or needing a large team and facility - there are other organisations you can volunteer with - we are horse focused, grass roots with a very simple set up. Think horses in a paddock with shelters.

• Want/need to post photos on social media.

• Need to bring children, pets, friends

*We have only two paddocks suited to people new to horses.  You are welcome to fill in the form if you are not experienced and I will try to make it work.​​​

The Kind Farm Inc. have safety strategies to keep humans and horses safe. Below you will find our Risk Management Plan and our OH & S Manual. Please familiarised yourself with these before your  first day. 

 

As a volunteer or visitor you will be required to fill in our Risk Acknowledgement Form.
